Proven Methodology
The Chess Magnet School teaching system is based on methods developed by Harlan Lee, who is a national chess master, certified coach, and professional educator. Harlan Lee has been teaching chess for more than 20 years and has led scholastic teams to ten state and five national championships.
Students progress at their own pace and are automatically challenged with a personalized course of instruction. This boosts confidence and builds enthusiasm. Students master skills and transfer these skills to new situations.

Extensive Curriculum
The curriculum is organized into lessons that start with basic concepts and progress through a defined set of “learning objectives”. Each objective represents a chess concept or skill. Numerous exercises help the student to learn, practice and master each objective. |

Why learn to play chess?
Those who learn to play chess, learn to think. According to Benjamin Franklin, "The game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement. Several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired or strengthened by it, so as to become habits, ready on all occasions." Chess is the King of Games, and the Game of Kings.
Is chess an art, a sport or a science?
Chess can be approached in many ways. Those who vie for honors treat chess as a sport that requires strong physical training to prepare for the rigors of competition. Others are drawn to the elegance of fine combinations and classic games and for them, chess is an art. Still others are intrigued by the mathematics of the game, and study chess by using computer science to unravel its complexities.
How does chess relate to education?
A 5-year study by a Pennsylvania school board found that students regularly engaged in chess classes showed a 17.3% improvement on school test results. Watson-Glaser Thinking Appraisal, the organization monitoring the study, concluded that "...overwhelmingly, chess improved critical thinking skills."

Do I need a coach to use the Chess School?
No - you can master the extensive Chess Magnet curriculum without assistance. However, students enrolled in regular classes, or who take regular lessons from a chess coach, can benefit even more from the additional coaching tools provided by Chess Magnet School. |
